September 15th Hearing

The final hearing at Austin City Council will be on September 15,2022. We are requesting the City Council and community continue to support Council Member Harper-Madison’s motion on the NCCD.

History

The Austin City Council adopted the Urban Renewal Plan (URP) for East 11th and 12th Streets in 1999, since then the Urban Renewal Board (URB), the 11th Street and 12th Street Neighborhood Conservation Combining District (NCCD) and the Planning Commission have all provided input, recommendations, to encourage redevelopment with specific use and development standards.

In the past two decades the URP has been amended 11 times since it was first adopted. This represents decades of conversations in the community.   Two City Council public hearings have recently taken place during which there was significant and broad based community support to continue to allow the land uses and other rights that are consistent with the NCCD.  City Council Member Natasha Harper-Madison’s Motion on the NCCD during those hearings was well received and the final reading will take place at Austin City Council on September 15, 2022.

We need your support!

You can get involved by contacting all district offices by email or phone. If you are interested in speaking at the September 15 hearing, you can sign up here before September 14 at noon. Please let the Mayor and City Council Members hear from you and know that:

  1. East 12th Street deserves to be alive, activated, thriving and prosperous for generations to come. A live, work and play neighborhood is critical to the growth and potential of our community.

  2. Our community benefits by being able to have different types of businesses and uses in close proximity to where we live.

  3. We do not want to further limit what we can have in our neighborhood. Part of being a vibrant, walkable community includes being able to enjoy restaurants and cocktail lounges near our homes.

  4. Live music and cocktail lounge use is needed to support the goals and future of the African American Cultural District.

Uplift the past, inspire the future
